My 2 callbacks were the only 2 I needed!

Hi Mrs. Carey,

I just wanted to say thank you for hosting this winter’s AMTC. It was an absolute blessing, and I had the time of my life! So, thank you for giving us the chance to pursue our dreams in such a safe environment and giving us the time to learn so much!

I wanted to share my AMTC story with you, because I am the typical story you all told about.

I did most of my competitions on New Year’s Eve and am of course, always hoping for my name to be put on the talent show list or even better, being the one in a million chance of getting stopped by an agent in the hallway. Well, none of the above happened, but it did to my best friend, as well as my dad. I was incredibly proud!! But becoming somewhat discouraged. Then Nickelodeon announced how they were casting for a new TV show for teens at a performing arts school. That is WAY up my alley, because I love all the musical theater. So I prayed and prayed for a callback on that. I got there, and again, nothing. At that point, I began doubting myself and constantly questioning what I was doing wrong. I knew not everyone could get a callback, but again, you always hope you’re one. Then my two other friends did. They were both out that day, so I had to make the call of letting them know they had. They both knew I had mistakenly, put my heart on a role, and unfortuantely had to tell them I was not there with them. That night we waited for callbacks, and I was so discouraged, I left and went to bed. My dad stayed down there to recieve his, along with mine, and came to the room around 1:15 that morning. He woke me up, and I looked and said “ No callbacks right?”; he handed me the sheet with one callback. I asked about him and my friends, and they’re callbacks were 5,7,9. Not very promising for myself. But I looked ath the callback and it was one of my top 5 I was planning for speednetworking! The next morning, I met with the ones I wanted to meet with, and came across my number 2 agent. She stopped me about 20 sec. into the interview, and said, I like you. Please come back for a callback. I was ecstatic! Only 2, but better than nothing. My friends and I met for callbacks, and they went to they’re multiple ones, while I wanted in line with a manager. My dad and I met with her, and she told me all her details but wanted to see a video of my performance here at AMTC. So, she gave me her card, and wanted me to immediately send it to her once I got it. Dad looked at me and said, “well it looks like you have a manager”. I then went to my other callback, and the agent said, “I just like you. Tell me who your director is, and I’d love to be in contact in about a week and a half.” My 2 callbacks were the only 2 I needed!! Some of the other people who had multiple callbacks were simply “hey, good job, love the voice, keep working, I have your demo”

So, in short, it only takes 1 callback to be the right one. The high numbers don’t mean anything. And while I knew that and had been prepared for that, sometimes it’s just hard to actually live it. But God has HIS timing and correct people for each one. So, I am a true testimony to everything you prepared us for. So thank you. This has been the experience of a lifetime!
