AMTC: Catalyst for Success!

Drew Matthews, AMTC Head Coach & National Scout

Carey,

I don’t ever want to be cocky or conceited, but to always remain humble. I know what the Lord giveth, He can also take away. I have seen that happen in my life many times before so I am shy when it comes to talking about what I do. I often wrestle telling people what God is doing in my life for fear that it will come across the wrong way. But, you are part of my family, and my excitement this morning is too much to bear. I just got a call from my agent, and I have finally been booked for a speaking role on Vampire Diaries on the CW.

I know we all work with people in the industry who have accomplished way more than just a one-time role on a TV show. But for me, I finally can say I was on TV. This is going to be shot during the middle of the week in January, which doesn’t mess up our search schedule at all! We all win in this!

I’m a little embarrassed to make such a big deal out of such a small role. But I have acting friends who have spent 10-15 years trying to say “they were on national television.” I feel undeserving of it. After all, I am reminded daily of how I have a degree in politics, not theatre. Or how I spent the past 10 years training on a tennis court, not on a stage. Nonetheless…

In the past 6 months, I have been blessed to do 1 national commercial, 2 regional tv commercials, 4 industrials, star in a feature indie film (which has allowed me to be on the soundtrack too), booked for 1 more in March with the same director, and now this!

Funny how God made me wait nearly 2 years of being told “NO” to every audition (over 60+) and then allows all of these blessings to happen. This is no indication that I “have finally arrived.” I’ve learned that lesson in tennis the hard way. There is always a better player waiting to upset your ranking. But I am eternally grateful again for how AMTC was the catalyst for this kind of success. As my mother keeps telling me, “God is never early. But He’s always on time.” And maybe I’ll never know on this side of heaven why God has allowed me to start finding success this late in the game. But whatever his reasons, I’m thankful. Just like you always say…

I wanted to share this with the people I care about the most. That’s you.

Blessings,

Drew Matthews
