Carey & Julia,
I was recently on a set of a TV show that films in the Northwest. This was my first experience on a set, but I knew what was expected and would probably be doing the same things over and over, which I did. I remembered back to my training through AMTC last year and really focused on why I was there and the expectations of me. I was always upbeat and listened very carefully to the directors and tried to do exactly what they wanted. I tried to tune out the grumbling and complaining of others. I REALLY tried to tune out all the colorful language from the people on the set. I think some of them try to come up with as much bad language as they can to impress the others. It ended up being a long 14 1/2 hour day, but I really enjoyed it and hoped to do it again.
A week later, I was cast as a double for one of the characters, so I got to hang around the guest stars on the show and had a great time. I had a positive mind set that was a key for the three days of work. I was a Santa and interacted with a lot of children, which was challenging at times, but a lot of fun. One of the actors/stunt men said, “let me guess, you’re an actor,” to which I replied, “no, I’m a teacher.” He didn’t quite know how to respond, but was very respectful of me the entire time.
I wanted to let you know about my experience because with the training I received through AMTC, I knew what I had to do, and made a choice as to how I worked. Thank you for all that you do.
