Model Conduct #7: Be Fervent

Isaac Haldeman, AMTC Top 100 Success Story

Not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.

Romans 12:11 (NAS)

Talent is not a substitute for preparation. It is the reason for it.

Throughout the Bible, God’s stars prepare for their missions and ministries.

Daniel and his friends trained hard in Babylon, and ‘in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all… in his whole kingdom’ (Daniel 1:20).

Young David spent years in the field with a slingshot and a harp before slaying a giant and entertaining a king. He spent more years in service and battle and built an army before he became a king.

Esther had twelve months of beauty preparation and competition to become queen. Even Jesus did not begin His ministry until age 30, after He ‘increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man’ (Luke 2:52).

Yet, before, during, and after the training is passion for the mission: fervor. Fervor is a hot, wholehearted enthusiasm, a ‘great intensity of feeling or belief’ (dictionary.com). It’s the secret of selection that raises an underdog, trumps talent, captures an audition, and predicts success.

Make no mistake about it: to be fervent in your calling from God pleases the King of Kings and the kings of entertainment. If you live a lukewarm life, Jesus will ‘spit you out’ (Revelation 3:16), and so will they.

Only with a passionate pursuit of excellence, one that pushes you to be ‘ten times better’ than those of this world, can you multiply your talents and best serve the Lord.
