Model Conduct #5: Be Real

Damien Horne, AMTC Top 100 Success Story

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.

Romans 12:9 (NAS)

What could be more important for an actor than to ‘be real’ on camera? Unless you’re like Jim Carrey or Robin Williams, an over-the-top audition looks unnatural. The moment you ‘look like’ you’re acting, you lose the role to someone else who makes it real, who makes a character or performance come alive for the audience.

What could be more important for a Christian than to ‘be real’ in life? Unless we ‘put on the Lord Jesus Christ’ (Romans 13:14) in word and deed, we are not His real followers. Jesus’ toughest words fall upon religious hypocrites, ‘for they say, and do not do’ (Matthew 23:3). They are false witnesses who betray Him ‘with a kiss’ (Luke 22:48).

Actors, models and talent for Christ have an edge; they carry the light of Jesus within them. He empowers His performers with real compassion that connects them to the human experience. They act in compelling truth. Reality TV takes on a whole new meaning. Even more, God’s stars shine brightly off-camera.

When they step off stage or take off the makeup, they don’t change. They have no secrets, no skeletons in the closet. They have the Holy Spirit in their hearts. Therefore, when fans dig into the private lives of stars for God, they find lives worth following, because God’s performers are following the King.

Furthermore, His actors and artists are real in their career decisions. They do not compromise or pretend to get a role; they ‘cling to what is good’ knowing the right jobs will come their way. Sell outs to the world don’t win in the long run. Fakes will be exposed. True reality in media is coming.
