Model Conduct #12: Be A Lover

Chryssie Whitehead, AMTC Top 100 Success Story

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Romans 12:21 (NAS)

A boycott of Hollywood turns His followers away from the entertainment industry and its prodigal stars. Jesus examples the opposite. He heads directly toward the outcasts, the unclean, the demon-possessed, and the sinners. He loves them, and they love Him back. Therein, their lives are transformed.

Furthermore, I believe the passionately bad and desperately forlorn are closer to salvation than self-righteous Christians who proclaim His Name often. ‘Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven’ (Matthew 7:21).

What about the army of performers God is raising to enter the mission field of Hollywood? Is it possible they can be overcome by the evil within it? Not according to Jesus; ‘I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you’ (Luke 10:19).

Could the evil that Paul warns us about actually be apathy or arrogance? Consider the scripture directly preceding today’s study:

‘But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so you will heap burning coals upon his head’ (Romans 12:20, see Proverbs 25:22). These ‘burning coals’ are the light and love of Jesus that will open blind eyes to the truth. If we are too indifferent, too lofty, or too far away, we cannot help our enemies.

Since Jesus says to ‘love your enemies, do good to those who hate you’ (Luke 6:27), we enter the darkness of the entertainment industry with arms wide open. We love the lost and the prodigals without condemnation, thereby presenting to them the greatest show on earth and well beyond it: the Kingdom of God.
