Model Conduct #1: Be A Nonconformist

Uriah Shelton, AMTC Top 100 Success Story

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:2 (NAS)

Being a performer marks you as a nonconformist.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ are cut out of God’s special cloth with a clear and vibrant purpose. Even as children, God’s performers know they aren’t meant to blend in, but to stand out. Blending in brings a mismatch, like sewing red on a quilt of blues and greens.

Therefore, thousands of brightly colored actors seek their true place and purpose. They step forward in churches, sign up for productions, jump out on stages, go to talent auditions, attend modeling schools, become theater majors, and even head to Hollywood and New York. They seek fulfillment of the calling within them.

When they leave home without an appreciation of the Father, like the prodigal son, their problems rise as prominently as their gifts. ‘For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required’ (Luke 12:48). Big talent. Big opportunity. Big tests.

‘But when he came to himself’ (Luke 15:17), the prodigal’s mind was renewed with the memory of his father’s goodness. Like him, we renew our minds with the memory of our Father’s goodness. It’s all in His Book.

Today, God’s performers rise as nonconformists to Hollywood standards. They conform to His standards; ‘For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son’ (Romans 8:29), ‘being transformed into the same image from glory to glory’ (2 Corinthians 3:18).

The Man you follow is the true star. He is The King.

Is resisting conformity to Hollywood hard for aspiring stars? As God gave you your talent, He gives you His power to rise in this world and beyond it, to be in this world but not of it.

‘For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself’ (Philippians 3:20-21).
