AMTC is a company embracing Christian values in an industry plagued with scandal. Yet, it is also an industry of beauty, truth, and art. Is AMTC just for Christians? No. AMTC welcomes everyone of good intention: all faiths. My journey with AMTC began with my mother, Millie Lewis. She was my role model, a former New York cover girl in the late 1940’s. She opened her first modeling school in Columbia, SC, in 1960, to help instill poise and self-esteem in young people. Her core values remain with AMTC today.
I am a Christian. We have based AMTC’s 25 years in business on the Christian values of truth, faith, hope, and righteousness. We didn’t discuss our religious beliefs in business because we thought business and religion should be separate. Times have changed. The modeling and talent industry, including conventions, is characterized by corruption. The word “scam” is tossed around like a hot potato. Consumers are confused with slick advertising, promises, and shattered dreams.
AMTC stands strong for clean actions, clean faces, hope, talent, truth, safety, and a coalition for good. AMTC is about faith. Everyone who attends AMTC takes a leap of faith choosing hope instead of skepticism. As my mother was fond of saying, “Every time we walk out of our front doors, we are on stage.” For those who want to step onto a bigger stage, AMTC is a path. It is not the only path, but it is a protected, traveled, and well-lit path.
We remain committed to uniting the best people we can find in the talent industry: newcomers and veterans, those with dreams and those who can make dreams happen, moms and dads, Christians and all people of character, caring, and integrity. The intriguing world of show business is a good business with good people- if you know where to look.
Now is the time for people of conviction to step forward. AMTC is under attack. By whom? Competitors for one. Being on top makes us a big target. Worse yet, some competitors lie to new talent and their families. They are predators.
The other source of attack is more saddening; it is well intentioned, but under-informed people who have been hurt by the industry, or they’ve seen others get hurt. They’ve never been to AMTC, but they assume we must be corrupt- just like “the rest.” They have abandoned their dreams, and they say the entire industry is “evil.”
I believe that evil exists in this world. It also exists in the talent industry. It can even travel through our own thoughts. Evil is characterized by lies. How do you know when someone is lying to you? In this industry, you can use common sense and check out a company’s history, reputation, and success stories.
In the Christian community, we have another route to check someone out: prayer. Even without an obvious prayer, God graces us with conscience, an inner guide. Some call it a “gut feeling.” Trust your heart. Trust God.
Everyone has gifts. Everyone has a calling. Some people feel called to perform. Can the talent industry embrace morals, ethics, and values? Absolutely! Uniting good people is what AMTC is all about: giving them a safe and effective education- along with an lighted launching pad. With God’s help, AMTC will remain a force of light and hope.
