Abbie Cobb Cast In Main Role In ABC Comedy

OMAHA, Neb. — Abbie Cobb, one of the stars of the ABC show Suburgatory, grew up in Papillion before finding success acting in Hollywood.

Cobb plays Kimantha on the Wednesday night primetime show. Her character is one of the beautiful, ‘mean girls’ at a suburban high school.

In real life, Abbie Cobb is still beautiful, but bubbly and grateful.

She spoke to KETV Newswatch 7’s Brandi Petersen during a visit home to Papillion, where she grew up and graduated from high school.

“I think I always wanted to be an actor,” said Cobb. “I watched a Shirley Temple marathon with my dad when I was in the third grade, and said, ‘Can I do that when I grow up?’ He said, ‘Well sure!‘” So, she did.

Cobb built upon her experience in drama, speech and music at Papillion-La Vista High School and booked extra work in Los Angeles. Eventually, she was hired for a more prominent role.

“The first thing I booked was Starstruck on the Disney Channel,” said Cobb. “It’s a film about a girl who moves to Los Angeles and tries to get into the business.”

A fitting start, since Cobb soon started booking multiple jobs, including a role with the Jonas Brothers.

“It was funny, the first time I actually met Joe [Jonas], he was on set,” described Cobb. “I had to do a scene where I was super annoying and clingy, hugging him and squeezing him. It was like, ‘Nice to meet you, I’m Abbie, about to invade your personal space!’”

Right now, Abbie’s work includes roles in Good Luck Charlie, Pair of Kings, and 90210. In the CW show, Abbie plays the recurring role of ‘Emily’.

“For some reason, the mean roles!” laughed Cobb. “I always get the mean roles, I don’t know why!”

Cobb is living a dream; something she said anyone can do.

“Sometimes when I’m driving to work on set, I’ll pass a row of palm trees, I’ll look at the sun setting over the beach and I’ll think, ‘Oh My Gosh, I can’t believe that I live here! And that I get paid to do what I love.’”
Cobb wrote a book, ‘Stuck On A Ferris Wheel’, in which she offers tips and suggestions about how to succeed in Hollywood. The book is available for purchase through major retailers including Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
