I am a big fan of the Christian rock band, Third Day.
Some talented kids from famous families attend AMTC. Recently, a young girl named Scout Powell, daughter of Third Day lead singer Mac Powell, competed as a young actress. Scout did well and received agent callbacks. Generational blessings.
The Powell family is a shining example of God’s goodness, and Mac is a humble leader. He came to the convention for the first day only, as he was leaving to go on tour – but he was kind and gracious to everyone who recognized him. Mac’s wife, Aimee, told me the band had just been nominated for three Grammys.
But they weren’t going to attend the biggest music awards show in the world.
Why not? Third Day had a prior commitment.
When the band learned of its nomination, Mac contacted another hit Christian band to replace Third Day in their previously scheduled engagement. The other band agreed, but the event organizer refused. They wanted Third Day and no one else.
Third Day could easily have made excuses and broken the contract. Goodness knows they had an excellent reason! Instead, they chose to honor their original commitment. How many performers would do the same?
In the parable of the Great Supper (Luke 14:15-24), we see God’s reaction to those who make excuses to Him: anger. It’s easier not to make excuses to God if we choose not to make excuses to anyone else, either. James tells us ‘your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment’ (v. 5:12).
Congratulations to Mac Powell and Third Day. No excuses.
But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’
Luke 14:18 NIV
P.S. Maybe God will provide a way for them to attend the Grammy’s after all. Nonetheless, they will surely be rewarded!

I too was at AMTC with my daughter and met Mac Powell. He was so nice. I was so surprized when I saw him walking in the convention center with his family. I even felt guilty for saying hello to him while he was having some time with his family. But he was just as kind and humble as he could be. This made me repect and appreciate Third Day even more. I am going to their concert with my husband on Valentine's Day. I know Third Day must miss alot of special days with their families but know that God will honor them with blessings for sharing his word through song and praises. God Bless Third Day, Mac Powell and his family. I thought Scout did a great job. She is beautiful! Tammy Waller

God Bless Mac Powell and Third Day! I too am a fan of this wonderfully inspirational Christian band! After having personally seen how gracious and humble Mac Powell is, even more so now. I noticed at convention that he was stopped MANY times and asked if he would have his photo taken with someone, or sign his autograph, and he was always SO nice and generous! A wonderful example of being a role model for Christ! His daughter, Scout, intends to continue lighting the way in the industry with her gifts. Being humble is a Godly attribute, and is not always an easy thing to do. The same can be said for honoring commitments. God is surely pleased with Mac and the other band members for honoring their commitment to a previously booked engagement over a nationally televised appearance at the Grammys! We can all learn a HUGE lesson from Third Day about integrity and being humble, about putting responsibility ahead of personal gratification! God will continue to bless Third Day's talented role models, and they will continue to be true role models to legions of fans!! (However, I AM praying that somehow, God will find a way for them to attend the awards show!) God bless Third Day!
