How do we reach AMTC-qualified teens and kids?

What’s the best way to advertise to today’s youth?

How should AMTC advertise?

AMTC is looking for new advertising ideas. While we’ve always enjoyed good word-of-mouth from successful AMTC grads, top 40 radio ads have been our primary means to spread the word in new areas. We have a feeling we need to do more to reach out to talented teens and kids over the internet, but where do we start?

Check out this radio ad (1.6MB mp3) that we ran before a recent search in Annopolis, Maryland. This is a perfect example of what we’ve been doing for the past 10+ years.

But now that radio seems less effective, the big questions is: where are you looking for news, ads, and entertainment?

  • Radio (what type? and what hours?)
  • TV (cable or network? favorite shows?)
  • Internet ads on other sites?
  • Postcards in the mail?
  • Classified ads in the back of fun magazines, like “Teen Vogue?”
  • MySpace? (btw, we do have a MySpace page now)

So, where are you? Drop us a comment below and let us know! We appreciate your thoughts.

Radio- Conventionaly radio is out! Where-as people listen to very demographic stations, and skip from one to the other. Everyone hates commrecials on the radio, so they change stations. I'm sure you can understand. Perhaps Sirius. That's the only radio I listen to.

TV- try bravo, vh1, mtv I suppose.

Internet- Like you said... Myspace! But It would be very hard to afford a myspace ad. It's extremely expensive to market anything on that site. Try facebook... or any of the music scalping sites like bearshare, etc.

You cut me off...

Postcard- Come on... We may as well still have milk men if this is a serious Q.

Ads- The best idea yet! Do it. Simply.

Myspace-... Like I said. VERRRY expensive. Try something else... Glad to help

Think about how to reach parents, as well. I'm most receptive to ads on the radio (soft rock & easy listening) when driving to/from work.

I would think myspace would work. I know most young actors have myspaces, and you could probably get some very positive feedback.

I would check out IndieClick (http://www.indieclick.com/). They do a bunch of online advertising on youth culture websites. I'm sure they could help steer you in the right direction regarding effective online advertising.

All the new videos are really cool. Perhaps future advertising could direct newcomers to the videos. The videos really help paint the picture about what AMTC is all about.

Otherwise, I think it's great that you guys have started this blog and that you're actively reaching out to the AMTC community. People like to hear about what's going on and take a peek at what goes on behind the scenes... If you keep posting, I'm sure people like me will keep reading!

Go to the source of talent. Have your directors do a mailing to all the dance studios and talent agents in their area. Don't forget community theater.
